Buying Happiness.

“Buying Happiness.”

In the shower this morning, I started

thinking about that old saying …

“Money can’t buy happiness.”

And I wondered …

Why would anyone say or believe

something like that?

Now, I don’t think that money itself

produces eternal joy or anything like

that.

After all …

Look at any of the countless tales of

despair attached to winners of those

mega millions lotteries over the years.

Littered amongst them you’ll find

heightened levels of greed, gluttony,

powerful jealousy, and colors of the

rainbow of sin, and they ALL tend to

result in less than positive outcomes,

but …

I do believe that you unequivocally CAN

buy happiness.

Let me tell you why …

I can remember one time, as a awkward

and chunky kid sporting my fresh new

high top fade, walking to assembly about

two months into the scholastic year.

The walk itself was hilly and probably a

little shy of a half mile.

We held our Monday morning assemblies in

the school gym which was detached from

our main school, so we walked.

Rain, sleet or snow … we walked.

About half way through the walk where it

started to get really hilly I could hear

Rich, an eighth grader, behind me say

….

“Daegan, why are your legs so skinny,

but you have boobs like a girl?”

Having no answer to that question, I

felt it’s sting to my core. I simply put

my head down and continued up the hill.

I had little kiddy man boobs which I

carried with me until the age of … I

don’t know, let’s say 30.

As you can probably imagine I was always

self conscious about taking my shirt

off.

Having boobs and being a boy ain’t all

it’s cracked up to be.

Now, by the age of about 25 I weight

about 235 pounds, had a body fat

percentage of about 7%, and could bench

press 430 pounds for 3 sets of six, and

guess what?

I still had those pesky boobs.

So god knows I tried to get rid of those

bad boys through discipline and sweat,

thats why …

When I see all those eBooks claiming

they “cure” man boobs I get pissed.

It’s horse shit.

Gynecomastia is a medical condition that

can only be solved by one thing.

Surgery.

Last year I bought myself a present.

You guessed it …

A boob job.

And I can tell you flat out, it was THE

best $8,000 I’ve ever spent.

I am happier.

Example #2:

I don’t know ….

Call me crazy, but I love buying my

Grandma stuff.

This Christmas I bought her a brand new

big ass LED TV for her and my

Grandfather to enjoy.

It was delivered a few days ago, and

just imagining them sitting there

enjoying their new TV puts a big’ol

smile on my face.

Buying stuff for people I care about

makes me happy.

Now, here’s one more reason why I think

you CAN and in fact SHOULD buy

happiness.

Yesterday, I shared the story with you

about how I got started online.

Well …

What I didn’t tell you, is that as soon

as I got home from that Holiday Inn,

like a crack fiend, I scoured the

internet for my second “fix” of how to

make money online.

I came across a book called “Google

Cash” written by a guy named Chris

Carpenter, and I can remember reading

the sales letter like 11 times.

Why?

Even though all the ideas about posting

links online and making $30,000 per

month were incredibly seductive. I mean

….

Heart racing.

Skin tingling.

“Ohh my gosh, I’m on the verge of

something HUGE ” seductive.

Every time …

I got to the part where it said “now

give me $67″ and I’ll give you this book

I couldn’t do it.

I don’t know why.

Thinking back, I was SO nieve back then.

I couldn’t get my head around spending

$67 on some eBook.

“The audacity of this guy Chris to ask

me for that kind of money.”

Somehow, I finally clinched my jaw,

pulled out the credit card and did the

deed.

And …

Just like with heroin, it’s NOT the

first hit that gets you, it’s the

second.

An internet addict was born.

Unlike a heroin addiction though …

This addiction is about the ONLY purely

positive addiction I can think of, but I

digress …

It get’s better.

So, I’m out there buying everything I

can get my hands on, making a dollar

here, and a dollar there, but by no

means in profit, and then …

I get invited my, now, best selling

author of the “Unemployed Millionaire”,

Matt Morris to go to my first marketing

seminar.

It was here in Washington DC.

It was a buddy ticket, but still …

It cost me $800 which I was teetering

back and fourth on whether or not it was

a smart of dumb use of my dough until I

got there.

Being there, changed my life for three

reasons which I’ll get to in a minute.

I remember I was SO nervous when I went

to go pick up Matt at the hotel that

first morning.

He flew in from Texas, and the least I

could do was give him a ride to the big

show being a townee and all, well …

We valet the car, and I immediately

start feeling shaky and cold.

So Nervous.

“Who am I? I’m not making money, this

Matt, he’s a millionaire and all these

people I’m seeing … Wow they’re the

gurus I see online, but who am I? I

don’t deserve to be here.”

Time passes.

We go out to dinner the first night, and

I can remember sitting there at dinner

with Tellman Knudson who had just

cracked his first $800,000 year (I

remember because ALL that he spoke

about.), and …

A few people down at the table, was my

now buddy and college wresting comrade

Russell Brunson (I guarantee he doesn’t

remember that dinner at the Capital

Grill, but I remember, I even remember

he got a steak sandwich or something

like that).

Although he hadn’t made 8 figures in a

year at that point, he was still A guy

who was all over the internet, one year

older than me, and making millions, and

there I am …

Because I bought an $800 ticket to an

event eating dinner with them.

So exciting.

Here’s what that did to me, and you’ll

find the same thing happen to you the

first event you go to …

It made the idea of success real.

These people I saw online all over the

place were now very real.

Not better than me, just slightly ahead

of the curve on me.

If not for that event and these

experiences at that event, my belief

that I could do it myself would never

have developed.

(BTW – shoot me a FB message and I’ll

let you know what events I’m headed to

first quarter this year if you’re

curious)

Now, by the second day I’m having the

time of my life.

Every single presenter was dropping

marketing knowledge atomic bombs.

I’m sitting in the front row with Matt

in the VIP section (because he’s a VIP)

and …

I couldn’t take notes fast enough.

I’m having the time of my life.

Then it happened.

A guy a little shorter than me from

Texas that spoke kinda funny gets up on

stage and starts talking.

My ears perk up like I dog trying to

hear something it can’t see.

To this day …

I still have the NOTES I took that day

from that presentation on my desk right

here beside me.

Of course, they’re old and some of the

pages are torn, but man ohh man are

those notes a gold mine.

This guy who calls himself “The King Of

Let’em Come to You!”

He starts his presentation off by

explaining that he’d been a direct

response marketer for many years, and

….

Just 19 months ago he started a brand

new information marketing business from

scratch with …

Literally no money invested, no

customers, no lists, no joint venture

partners, no merchant account, no

nothin, and in that time he developed

that simple idea into a million dollar

business.

I can remember vividly thinking to

myself …

“How awesome. What freedom he must feel

to command such a power. What leverage.

19 months to $1 Million per year. Wow.”

(Sidenote: I’ve since beaten that record

in taking Maximum Leverage from $0 to

$128,000 per month in just under 6

months)

Naturally, I paid very close attention

to everything he said, and it didn’t

hurt that he started saying things that

make a LOT of sense to me like …

“I’m in the business of getting and

keeping money.”

Then he shared that everything that he

did to create that level of success in

his business was preplanned before he

ever sent a single email.

Next, he laid out a timeline that showed

exactly where he started and brought us

up to current.

May 23rd, 2004 – First email sent

June 10th, 2004 – First check $700.36

June 28th, 2004 – Second check $2,421.19

February 2006 – $87,945.28 in sales

Then he went on to show us exactly how

he had created his …

“Highly profitable, extremely

predictable, completely stable,

ulitimate lifestyle business.”

I bet your wondering what he shared …

I’ll give you a hint:

It had everything to do with what I’m

doing right now with you.

He had me hook line and sinker.

That presentation flat out changed my

life.

I went home and immediately double my

business.

He offered a full day consultation at

the end of his presentation for $10,000.

I’m so glad I had the courage to say

yes.

That day at the La Quinta in Austin,

spending time with someone FAR superior

to me at what I wanted to and would

eventually master …

“The Fine Art of Money Getting.”

Cost me $10,000 but has made me

milliuns.

He got the cheap end of the stick (even

though I went back the next year and did

it again.)

Paying for education has bought me a new

and better life.

It’s bought me freedom.

Freedom has brought me happiness, now

….

You tell me a way to get your man boobs

removed without paying a surgeon to do

it.

I mean … You very well can’t cut

yourself open and rip those suckers out

yourself.

And tell me you don’t love buying gifts

for your grandma and I tell you you’re a

liar.

You tell me how the heck you’re gonna to

learn to make millions online without

paying for the privilege to be able to

dig into the brains and experience of

someone who’s already where you want to

go.

These are all things I’ve purchased

outright.

I bought them.

And, in the example of my education I’m

ALWAYS buying.

I have no ego about it.

Only excitement.

I love helping the economy by spending

my cash money on my education because I

learned a long time ago that …

There is no better deal on earth, and

….

For one more other reason that you’d

don’t see on the surface …

When you spend large sums of legal

tender to better yourself you’re self

affirming that you you’re worth it, and

you know what?

You are.

“How did I get here?”

As I sat in the last seat, careful not

to be seen by anyone I knew in the

Bethesda Maryland Holiday Inn I could

almost smell the desperation.

There I was.

One of about 400 people who had somehow

found their way to this “meeting.”

I as sat there I silently wondered if

they had all seen the same commercial

few days earlier that I had.

I had returned home from my job as a

traveling sales rep in the Washington DC

area after a 3 hour stent in the gym (it

was really all I had to look forward to

back then).

I could remember jumping in the shower

and feeling something I had never, in my

life, felt before.

I heart quickened.

My breath grew shallow.

I could feel my eyes going dark.

As I reached for the shower head to stop

myself from falling, there, at that

moment …

I felt true horror.

My mind wandered to my daily happenings

and I realized, for the first, that …

Every day of my adult life I had done

the exact same thing.

Wake up at 6:31am sharp.

Hit the snooze button on my alarm clock

exactly 11 times before actually rising

from bed at 7:50 or so in the morning.

Always so tired.

I stumble to shower like a zombie.

Clean up, put on my suit, and leave to

be paid commercial for some company.

Everyday this is what I did …

The fear came on sharp with this simple

question …

“If this is what life is like now, what’s

it going to be like 10 years from now?”

The horror took over with the answer.

“Nothing.”

That moment changed me forever.

I had “woken” up to the painful reality

that life was NOT going as I had planned

as young kid who once dreamed of owning

his own orange Lamborghini.

Now, as an adult, all I could see, if …

I stayed on the path that was set before

me was mediocrity.

Settling.

I couldn’t let that future come true,

but what do you do?

“How DO you get out of this “damn” job?”

“How DO you free myself?”

That night, after watching my favorite

movie “Apocalypse Now” on my couch with

a couple Serra Nevada’s I saw something

I’d never seen in something that I’d

seen many many times before.

There, in that commercial that promised

wealth through real estate, where I had

once only seen scam artist and

charlatans I saw, for the first time …

Hope.

The “hope” of an opportunity to change.

As I sat there, in the back of that

Holiday Inn conference room I teetered

on complete embarrassment and regret for

a few days earlier seeing opportunity in

a real estate infomercial.

Today …

I live a life that before that night in

the shower, before that Holiday Inn

conference, I could never have imagined.

From my little lap top computer I’ve

generate millions of dollars, literally

at the push of a button.

A reality where literally at any point

in time I choose to write a 5 minute

message and send it out to my list of

180,000 email subscribers from around

the world between $2,000 to $12,000, on

average, comes back within 24 hours.

This reality has allowed me travel to

places I never would have imagined.

Can you believe that back before my

embarrassing night at that Holiday Inn I

didn’t even have a passport?

Now I’ve been to exotic countries like

Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Nicaragua,

El Salvador, The Greek Isle, and just

last year I on a whim …

I moved to Maui, leased a house in

Wailea with an elevator and salt water

pool less than a 8 minute walk to the

MOST beautiful beaches in the world.

My daily reality was literally …

I would wake up in the morning 6am with

the sun, go to my Lanai, and there I

would sit for 30 to 45 minutes in

beautiful silence watching whales from

my back porch.

On a whim, from Washington DC to Maui

Hawaii.

Within a week, I made the decision and I

was there.

Forget about that little voice that asks

questions like …

“What about your homes here in

Washington DC?”

That voice? Silenced. Ignored.

I just left.

I took a year long extended vacation

without even a thought to “if” I could

afford it or if it made any sense.

I wanted to go so I simply went.

Imagine being able to make decision that

way.

Well you can …

You can make decisions like that anytime

you want when you can do this.

Create income in leverage on demand.

That IS the ultimate skill.

Knowing how to do that IS freedom.

Here’s what I mean …

Right before I sat down to write this to

you, I sent out an email, and when I got

up to get a glass of water I saw that I

had already made $1,750 while writing

this to you, and I wasn’t surprised.

That’s normal.

That’s how it always happens, so that’s

simply how it supposed to happen.

Now …

The normal person would never believe

this, but it’s my reality and can be

In fact, that reminds me, there’s a

funny story I’ll share with you in a

right now we’ve got a LOT of ground to

Sitting in that back row of the Holiday

Inn ultimately changed my life for one

reason.

More accurately not one reason.

One person.

But before I met that person I witnessed

one of the most important lessons I’ve

ever learned in my life …

There, right before my eyes, I saw just

how quickly anyone’s fortune can change.

Before I met the man that would

ultimately change my life and yours

another man shared his story from stage.

Hair slicked back, in his black suit,

with a smile on his face, he told the

audience to get out of their seats and

run to the back of the room to purchase

his real estate system and my jaw

dropped.

I counted.

Well over 100 people waited patiently to

hand this man their credit cards and

have him charge them $997 for his

course.

“You mean, one hour, and he just made 3

times more than I make in year?”

It would take me 10 years of perfect

corporate butt kissing to get an annual

salary even close to what this guy just

pulled down in hour right before my

eyes.

It was almost magic.

There, even before I met the man that

would change my life, I learned a lesson

that I want to share with you.

In fact, this might be the MOST

important lesson you CAN learn.

“He (or she) who sells well and has an

audience is already wealthy.”

Now that sounds simple and apparent, but

I didn’t “get” it until just recently in

the form of this question …

In fact, if you can find your own unique

way to answer this question and live by

that answer, it will change your financial

destiny forever.

I guarantee it.

The question …

“How can I fall in love with selling?”

Find the answer to that question and the

ultimate conclusion can be nothing but a

life of infinite freedom and

uncontrollable wealth, but …

I get ahead of myself.

The “pro” who just bested three years of

my income in an hour walks off stage and

although I’m amazed, his solution wasn’t

for me.

I “almost” felt like the evening was a

complete waste.

Then this little short fat bald man

steps on stage.

God bless that man. He doesn’t know it,

but he changed my life.

See, when HE stepped on stage here’s

what happened.

I remember …

My pupils dilated. My eyes widened. My

breath slowed. My ears could hear

nothing but his words as he shared …

That the internet was a place that

regular people were making a full time

living.

My very own personal mental revolution

had taken hold.

I was more than intrigued.

To that point, the ONLY thing the

internet was to me was a place to do

research and email friends.

When he started sharing images of these

simple little sites he had created, and

others like him had create, that were

making $1,000 per month passively I

simply couldn’t contain my excitement.

I remember I began to clinch my jaw.

I rocked back and forth in my chair.

I couldn’t stop my hands from

jittering.

My path.

I had found it …

I believe we only find a few great

obsessions in life and I “knew” this one

was mine.

God bless that short fat bald man.

If not for him my journey that lead me

to writing to you today would never have

begun.

I buy his thing (it’s a piece of crap,

but who cares) then I immediately go

home and start researching “how” people

are making passive and residual income

online.

Curiosity is of the MOST powerful forces

in the world.

My curiosity changed me from a timid kid

who couldn’t speak in front of an

audience to a person who just a few

weeks ago on a whim decided to see “if”

(and completely out of curiosity) I

decided to put on seminar would people

come?

Not only did they come, but with 3 weeks

notice 100 of them showed from all

corners of the world, each paying me a

measly $197 a piece to be there.

Two days, I stood before that audience.

Two days, I spoke and did things that

would have crippled me with fear just a

few short years ago, and I …

LOVED every moment of it.

When all was said and done, that weekend

created, let’s just say, at least six

figures.

Not bad for two days.

How ironic.

Just a few years ago I looked to the

people on stage at such seminars as

charlatans, and the audience as

desperate, now that I’ve played both

positions I see things completely

differently.

Seminars are places of great change.

They are places of personal

transformation.

subject, in an environment filled with

Blogging

The very first thing you should consider starting with when it comes to making money online is blogging. If you establish a blog, not only is it free, but you can monetize it in several ways.

What is a blog? A blog, originally known as “weblog” is a continuous string of posts that you make about whatever you want to talk about. It can be reviews, information about your particular niche, or just what your thoughts are on the world at hand. If you are sharing valuable information in a particular “niche” you can actually get sponsors to post ads on your blog. However it is easier to monetize your blog in other ways.

For instance, there is Google. Google has the “Adsense Program”, named because the ads actually “sense” what you are blogging about and match the topics accordingly. I will have more information on Adsense for you shortly. There is also something very smart that you can do. You can advertise other people’s products on your blog, by being an “affiliate” for them. I’ll be going over that as well. For now, the most common thing to do is to get your free “Wordpress” blog and install it on your server. That isn’t very hard to do. A great free Webpage Editor

One thing you will need when making simple web pages of your own, also known as
“mini-sites”, and for other very simple tasks, is a web page editor. While you can do it in Microsoft Word, Wordpad and other text editors, many folks choose to start out by download the free program called Kompozer, formerly known as NVU. The Graphical User Interface makes it very easy to use, but it is a powerful program. There are tutorials on how to use it online as well.

One way you will use Kompozer in a very simple fashion is to change the name on sales pages so that YOUR name appears on them. You can do other simple tasks like changing the price, adding a “form” from your autoresponder so you capture folks information such as their name and email, and more. These are all basic functions that are simple to do, and you should make sure you learn to do them as we progress. So go download what could be the best freebie ever, Kompozer, and have a blast!

FTP – A great way to move files …

Another necessary evil in learning the basics of marketing online is to be able to move files from your computer to the host computer and vice-versa. Many folks may recommend using C-Panel, which offers a variety of things you can do. However, I’d like to focus on the very simple file-moving system called FTP. FTP dates back decades, and is completely free if you do search for a ftp client. I personally like to use “Leech FTP”, but there are many others that are no-cost and available to use.

Just like any file manager, you get to view both your own computer’s hard drive, and the host computer. You then drag the files back and forth, whether you want to upload or download the files you have altered. Go ahead and do a Google search to find out more on how to use FTP programs, they are a snap, and they are free.

In the next installment, I will be explaining how to download a free program that will let you make simple web pages of your very own.

Getting Your OWN Website

Welcome back to the Internet Marketing Newsletter!

Although you will be told time and time again that you do not need a website of your own, actually you will be 99% better off if you do have one. It will open up doors that you can’t imagine right now, but later down the road, everything from blogging, to building a base of leads to sell to, to reselling products will be a whole lot simpler if you get “hosting”.

The most well known host is “Hostgator because more Internet Marketers use that more than any other host, which may come into play down the road in terms of compatibility issues. Before signing up, think up a unique domain name for your website. It should be fairly broad in scope in case you shift focus. For instance, if you name the site BestGolfTipsOnEarth.com, and then decide to switch to a focus on Gardening, Blogging, or Twitter as your “niche”, then you’ll need a new name! Instead try MyGreatDigitalProducts.com or something like that. Generic. Should you only choose .com? and not .net, or .me, or .org, etc? Well, most folks remember .com the best, but that is hard to answer. I mostly get .coms myself and add “MY” or “YOUR” to the beginning of the name to make it unique.

I usually use Godaddy, or Namecheap when purchasing a domain name, you should never pay more than 10.00 annually.
